The recurring themes

Conference programmes date quickly, but the concerns of the people running serious WordPress platforms do not. The subjects that come up every year are maintenance burden, content governance, and the difficulty of measuring whether any of it is working.

What still holds up

• Accessibility is a build requirement, not a remediation project
• Performance budgets need an owner or they are ignored
• Content modelling decisions outlive the people who made them
• Editors are users; the editing experience determines content quality
• Security is a maintenance process, not a plugin

Why the conversations repeat

Because each is an organisational problem wearing a technical costume. The technology to solve them has existed for years. What is usually missing is a named owner and the willingness to spend budget on something that produces no visible change.
